Kehelland
People blossom when they come to Kehelland. The village, just outside Camborne, is the home of a horticultural centre which offers training and work experience for adults with learning difficulties. This year, trainees were given a special task: to grow and plant up masses of red, white and blue flowers for Camborne’s town centre, to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Newquay Community Orchard
Bordered by hundreds of houses, a busy sports centre and one of Cornwall’s largest schools, newly-planted Newquay Community Orchard is destined to become a green oasis for the town’s residents for generations to come. More than 500 species of flora and fauna are living and thriving on the seven-acre site — yet this was an empty field only two years ago.

PEaT Project
It is known as the Golden Mile: a south-facing stretch of sheltered, spectacularly fertile land on the fringes of Penzance, which can comfortably produce two crops a year. Last winter, a group of novice horticulturalists were given the opportunity to take over a field in this favoured place.

People and Gardens
A storm is on the way, and a fierce wind is whipping across the fields, carrying with it the first few hints of rain – but the three volunteer gardeners are determined to brave the weather and finish the job. They are spreading a thick blanket of hops over newly-planted seeds destined to grow into giant gourds which will form part of the Eden Project’s spectacular harvest display later this year.

St Ives Community Orchard Association
Back in January, dozens of people braved the midwinter cold to gather at St Ives Community Orchard and toast the health of its resident trees with mulled cider. The traditional wassail ceremony also featured exuberant singing and banging of pots and pans, to wake the trees from their slumber.

Tregoniggie Woodland
The Tregoniggie Titan is a giant among trees: a magnificent ash with a massive base which measures more than 15 feet. Believed to be around 400 years old, it is one of only a small number of ancient trees identified in Cornwall – and it is still thriving in an old Cornish hedge in Falmouth.
